Soccer Strengthening and Injury Prevention
The Purpose of the SSIP Program
Proper pre-season and in-season sport-specific training can help to improve performance while reducing, and even eliminating the number of soccer-related injuries by as much as 25 percent. A proper conditioning program can help diminish the impact of injuries and help athletes return to the game more quickly. This unique program seeks to improve performance, skills and tactics through injury prevention methods, because improved performance should never come at the cost of an injured player! This is accomplished through the following:
- Avoiding vulnerable positions
- Increasing flexibility & strength
- Including plyometric exercises into the training program
- Increasing proprioception through soccer specific training
We incorporate the "PEP" (prevent injury, enhance performance) program delivered by our certified trainer. The PEP Program is a highly specific 15/20 minute training session that replaces the traditional warm-up. It was developed by a team of physicians, physical therapists, athletic trainers and coaches, and has funding support from the Amateur Athletic Foundation of Los Angeles (AAF).
Pre-season Soccer Training & Conditioning
A progressive, pre-season conditioning program should include a soccer-specific full-body warm-up, leg and core strengthening, agility and balance drills, plyometric jump training and stretching. Pre-season, coaches are encouraged to spend more practice time laying the foundation for in-season play by building leg and core strength and agility skills, helping young bodies to acclimate to soccer-specific motion after a lengthy off-season.
Our Soccer Strengthening and Injury Prevention is located in communities throughout the region providing custom training tailored and delivered to suit many requirements, for soccer clubs, schools, YMCAs and Recreation Centers throughout the region.
